The S S Music Academy is celebrating its 9th anniversary, on 8th May, at Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha. The celebration will be studded with various cultural programs organised by the 200 students of the Academy.
Classical music including Carnatic and Hindustani vocal, violin, keyboard, veena recitals, light music songs, raaga-based film songs, fusion and guitar recitals, and Kuchipudi dance ballets, form part of the day's cultural programs. These will be performed by the academy's students, ranging from children 6 years old to senior artistes (including housewives, working women and college students).
The chief guest for the evening is L V Subrahmanyam, IAS and former VC of SAAP & MD; and the special guest is P S Gopalakrishna, Director, All-India Radio Hyderabad. The programs will be inaugurated by music director Koti. Anand Kuchibhotla, founding President of Silicon Andhra, and Oleti Paravateesam of Doordarshan Hyderabad is the other invitee guest.
S S Music Academy was established in 1997 by G V Prabhakar, a classical singer, composer and graded artiste of the All-India Radio. The academy which was started with one branch and just three students, now has more than 300 students in three branches, at Gandhinagar, Vanasthalipuram and Kondapur.
Prabhakar and his wife Padma Lalitha together teach Carnatic vocal, veena and Kuchipudi at the institute. There are seven other teachers who take care of other branches of music, such as the guitar, the keyboards, Hindustani music, light music and Ghantasala songs.
The academy is affiliated to the Gandharva Mahavidhyalaya in Maharashtra, and also prepares and trains students for music and dance certificate course exams at the Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University.
