The Mechanical Department of JNTU Hyderabad is organizing its annual technical festival "Connaissance" on March 4th & 5th at the department campus in JNTU, Kukatpally. The central idea of the 2-day meet is to bring out the innate talent, creativity, public-speaking skills and the organizing capabilities of students, so that they gain the domain and field experience that is required to succeed in their careers, be it in academia, industry, R & D, government sector, or entrepreneurship. The various events organised under the fest are as follows:
Paper Presentations
Students are required to present their papers on any of the below topics:
Thermal Session
Industrial Session
Manufacturing Session
Design Session
Robotix
Students are required to make robots that meet certain specifications, and that can perform the task that is to be accomplished.
Robo Soccer - The objective is to design a robot and which can compete on an arena specially designed for robotic soccer match. The event is aimed at testing the flipping, kicking, maneuvering skills and the control of the robot.
Robo Racer - The participants should build a robot within specified dimensions that will traverse the given path which is filled with obstacles and different kinds of terrains. The bot should complete the given path without damaging any of the obstacles present.
Nocturn Machines
This event is a 2-round format. Round 1 consists of objective type questions, which will test the participants on their basic engineering and understanding skills. Round 2 is a practical session. Teams will be provided with junk and a problem statement. The teams can work for 3 to 4 hours to build their machine. The machine will be tested, and winners will be decided based on the machine's performance.
Engine Conseil
This event comprises of 2 rounds. The Round 1 will be a screening round where teams are selected on the basis of their scores. The round 2 will be the actual hands-on session. Teams will be asked to assemble very basic components.
Techno In'quiz'itive
The Round 1 will be a screening round where teams are selected on the basis of their scores that they obtain in the objective-type test based on simple mechanical engineering concepts. Round 2 will be the quizzing round.
Workshop
IIT Kharagpur, in colabration with ARK Technosystems, is organizing a workshop on 'Haptic Robotic Arm'. Haptics or haptic technology is the science of applying touch sensation and control, for interaction with virtual or physical applications. In combination with a visual display, haptic technology can be used to train people for tasks that require hand-eye coordination, such as Robotic Tele Surgery and Space-ship Maneuvering.
The 'Dextrous Hand' (from the NASA's collection of humanoids) has haptic sensors embedded in every joint and in every finger-pad. The sensors relay information to a central computer for processing and analysis. In this workshop, students will be shown how to control a robotic arm using haptics technology (haptic glove).
Design Contest
Draw the design of the model provided and assemble it with the software available. Fastest and finest finger wins.
Workshop Modelling
This event comprises of 2 rounds. Round 2 will be a screening round where teams are selected on the basis of their scores. Round 2 will be the actual hands-on session. Teams will be asked to assemble very basic components.
Director's Cut
It is about a short film on any general topic and duration of the film has to be a maximum of 6 minutes.
Working Model Presentation
Participants will have to design a working model of their idea so that they can effectively convey their themes to the participants.
Poster Presentation
Participants will have to design a poster that does most of the talking with minimal explanation.
