Kolkata artist Sukanta Das is exhibiting his recent works of paintings at the Alankritha Art Gallery from 19th February to 5th March. Titled 'Mystic Moods', the exhibition showcases Sukanta's interpretation of different moods in different ways.
Sukanta goes on interpreting all these moods in his own way, sometimes restoring to photorealism, sometimes out of pure expressionistic impulses. He cites these through examples in his paintings of Lord Krishna with a flute, a pious lady, a street side barber, a faceless letterbox, a young boy selling balloons or even a piece of antique. His paintings reflect his ardent devotion to Lord Krishna.
Born in Kolkata, Das has completed his Bachelor's in Visual Arts (first division) from the Ravindra Bharathi University in 1996. A recipient of the national scholarship, he has had 8 solo exhibitions. He has participated in a number of group shows in the country and abroad. His works are a part of some of the most prestigious public and private collections in India and overseas.
