As part of its monthly program of music, Kalasagaram is presenting a Carnatic vocal recital by V Shankara Narayanan on 17th April, at Keyes High School. He will be accompanied by V S Narayanan on the violin, S Aravind on the mridangam, K Shyam Kumar on the kanjira and Radha Padmaja on the morsing.
Shankara Narayanan is a disciple of Vaigal S Gnanaskandan, who himself is a disciple of the legendary Semangudi Srinivas Iyer. Narayanan was a recipient of the National Talent Scholarship from the Government of India for 11 consecutive years. He has about 600 compositions to his credit.
Shankara Narayanan has performed at several places in India, and also in Singapore and the South East. He is an A-Grade artiste of All India Radio and Doordarshan. He currently lives and works in Singapore.
Kalasagaram is a south-Indian cultural association situated in the East Nehru Nagar of East Marredpally, and has been organising Carnatic music concerts for more than 35 years now. The concerts are usually held in the open-air theatre of the Keyes High School campus. Kalasagaram also occasionally stages South-Indian classical dances and Tamil plays.
