As part of the Vijay Jawan Mela shopping festival on till 28th October, Shilparamam is presenting a Carnatic vocal recital by Himabindu, on 26th October. With M V N Prasad on the violin and Srinivas on the mridangam for music support, Himabindu will start the recital with Vanajakshi in Kalyani ragam and Adi talam, followed by Sri Raghukulamandu in Hamsadhwani ragam and Adi talam, Sadhinchule O Manasa in Harathi ragam and Adi talam, Anupama Gunambudhi in Athana ragam and Jampa talam, Koluvamaregadha in Todi ragam and Adi talam, Venkatachala Nilayam in Sindhubhairavi ragam and Adi talam, Nagavulu Nijamani in Yaman Kalyani ragam and Adi talam, and finally the Tillana.
Himabindu is an M A gold medalist in music from the Telugu University, Hyderabad, and is a B-grade artiste of the All-India Radio. She learnt initially under P Lakshmi Narasimha in Chirala, and thereafter from Akella Mallikarjuna Sarma in Hyderabad. She has performed at many temples and cultural venues in Andhra Pradesh.
Himabindu won many music competitions and awards, such as the Kalasagaram Tambura in 1997 for the 1st prize in the Annamacharya and Purandaradasa kritis competitions conducted by Kalasagaram, the 1st prize at the Sri Thyagaraja Gana Sabha of Palakollu, the N C V Sangeeta Parishad Award in Vijayawada, the 1st prize in the All-India Music Competitions conducted by Navya Nataka Samithi (YMCA) and the 2nd prize at the National Youth Festival, Bhopal. Currently, she teaches music to about 30 students at her residence in Madhura Nagar, Yousufguda.
