A French film inspired by American films, with English sub-titles, at an Oriental restaurant. So, what are you coming here for?
Creaking Projectors is screening a French classic movie Bob Le Flambeur (Bob The Gambler), with English sub-titles, on 13th June, at the Taj Deccan.
The movie was directed by Jean-Pierre Melville, and stars Isabelle Corey, Daniel Cauchy, Roger Duchesne, Andre Garet, Gerard Buhr, Guy Decomble, Claude Cerval, Howard Vernon, Colette Fleury, Simone Paris and Rene Havard.
Bob Le Flambeur is the first of Melville's Americana inspired thrillers. The film is inspired by the American noir films of the '40s and the '50s. The actors dress in American style clothes and drive huge American cars down the narrow streets of Paris.
Bob is a former bank robber and gambler who did time for a heist. He develops a complicated scheme to steal a casino, bringing in a protege as well as a few other underworld characters. Meanwhile, Inspector Ledru of the local police, whom Bob once saved from death, gets a hint that Bob is involved in something big.
Bob Le Flambeur was remade by Neil Jordan as The Good Thief in 2002.
