This evening, check out who is winning in the battle of the wordsmiths.
The Sahitya Akademi is presenting the Bhasha Samman and the Translation Prizes for the year 2004, at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan.
The award ceremony will be held on the 23rd of August. The program will include a welcome speech by K Satchidanandan, and the Presidential address by Gopi Chand Narang. The chief guest for the evening will be D Jaykantan.
On the 24th, the award winners will share their experiences and knowledge with the audience, at the same venue. The program will be presided over by G V Subrahmanyam.
Set up in 1954 by the Government Of India, the Sahitiya Akademi is the premier institution in the country for literary dialogue, publication and promotion. It is also the only institution in the country that undertakes literary activities in 24 languages, including English. Over the 51 years of its dynamic existence, it has published over 4,300 books in 22 languages.
Bhasha Samman has been instituted since 1996, and is given to scholars and writers for their contribution to languages not recognized by the Sahitya Akademi, and to classical and medieval authors. So far, over 35 writers and scholars have been honored with the Bhasha Samman.
