Kalasagaram is presenting its Annual Youth Festival Of Dance from 12th to 14th March, at the Keyes High School For Girls, Secunderabad. This 3-day festival will feature 3 young and upcoming dancers, Jakkula Lakshmi Pravalika, Srikari S Rao and Ashritha Vemuganti.
Today, the inaugural day of the festival, Jakkula Lakshmi Pravalika will be performing a Bharatanatyam recital. Pravalika has been a disciple of V S Ramamurthy and Manjula Ramaswamy since 1999. She has performed several solos as well as been a part of group recitals, for her institution. She won many prizes and awards, including the 1st prize at the ISKCON Temple in 2005, the Nritya Bala Ratna Award from All The Best Academy in 2005, and the Best Dancer Award from the Atomic Energy Central School II in 2004-2005. She was also invited for a dance performance at Gandhi Bhavan for the 60th celebrations of the Indian Independence Day.
Kalasagaram organises a youth festival of dance every year, wherein upcoming artistes are invited from all over the country, particularly south India. It also organises a youth festival of music, the last edition of which was conducted last month and had D Lakshmi Prachotan, Lavanya Sundararaman and Sandeep Narayan performing.
Kalasagaram is a south-Indian cultural association situated in the East Nehru Nagar of East Marredpally, and has been organising Carnatic music concerts for more than 35 years now. The concerts are usually held in the open-air theater of the Keyes High School campus. Kalasagaram also occasionally stages South-Indian classical dances and Tamil plays.
