Basically Hyderabadi - Chronicles Of Old City is an exhibition of drawings and paintings by Syed Rayees Ahmed. It will be on display at Iconart Gallery, from 7th to 20th November, between 11:30am and 7pm everyday.
"Basically Hyderabadi" transcripts proceedings of life in the old city. It was conjured up when the artist took notes and made quick sketches of minute details like that flowing beard of a fakir, a reclined young man, unhurried movements of burkha-clad women - all relaxed in the comfort of their homes, in bazaars, tea stalls and on the streets. The exhibition speaks of everyday life. Subjects have candid expressions, and at times, fleeting suspicious emotions crossing quickly on their faces only to resign into an unquestioning trust in their way of life .
Paintings have stained glass effects of Byzantine religious church paintings, done in classical modern style where facial features are repeated with religious icons or Urdu scripts. These features merge with the human form seamlessly.
