APSO stands for Amateur and Professional Singers Organization. It's been around for 5 years now, and was started to promote national integration through music and maintain standards/quality. That seems like a broad objective, but it does seem active. The founder K S R Murthy is a composer and singer, and winner of the 1987 Ghantasala Smaraka Award. APSO has around 150 singers now, in light, folk and classical music, both in Hindi and in Telugu.
On the occasion of Saluri Rajeswara Rao's first death anniversary, 30 singers of APSO will sing 24 of his numbers from such old films as Malleswari, Missamma, Aradhana and Iddaru Mitrulu. ANR will be the chief guest, and Koti and Vasu Rao, Rajeswara Rao's sons and music directors themselves, will be there. The day will also see 65-year-old ex-film singer K B K Mohanraju felicitated by Rao Balasaraswathi Devi, the first playback singer of Telugu films.
