The Lasya Academy Of Andhra Natyam is presenting a recital of Andhra Natyam by its students on 18th January, at Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha. Six dancers, namely Suneela, Harini, Sathvika, Janaki, Akhila and Ravi Teja, will enact Balakandam from Adhyatma Ramayanam.
The orchestra will have Kalakrishna and Ramaa Jagannath with the nattuvangam and vocal respectively, Baru Balaram on the mridangam, B Janardhan on the ghatam and Uma Shankar on the violin.
The dancers are all disciples of Dr. Suvarchala, a senior lecturer of Andhra Natyam at Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University. She is the founder of Lasya Academy Of Andhra Natyam, started in the year 1997. Dr. Suvarchala has done her MA and PhD in Andhra Natyam from the University of Hyderabad, and was the first research scholar in Andhra Natyam during 1997.
