The Shilparamam Arts, Crafts And Cultural Society is conducting an all-India Saree Mela from 19th September to 4th October. The mela is from 10:30am to 9pm.
Around 300 stalls are put up by handloom weavers from all over India, with artisans from around 18 states exhibiting their products. The varieties on display include Gadwal, Pochampally, Mangalagiri and Venkatagiri from AP; Benaras sarees from UP; Maheswari and Chanderi from MP; Patolas from Gujarat; Kota from Rajastan; and Kantas of West Bengal.
There are also shawls & woollens from J&K, handlooms from Uttaranchal, Madhubani paintings from Bihar, appliques of Orissa, Sandal work of Karnataka and handicrafts from Pondicherry.
Cultural programmes are being organized daily at the venue, in the evenings from 6.30pm, and puppetry, pagati veshalu and puli veshalu are part of the fair.
Some other attractions at the mela are competitions for women in traditional wear and Bathukamma devotional songs, and Ammavari dress competitions for kids. Traditional festive food will be served at Grameena everyday. And kids have more to look forward to, including boating, bullock cart rides, the village museum, and bouncies.
