The Shilparamam Arts & Crafts Mela Society - in co-ordination with the Ministry Of Textiles, the National Handicrafts And Jute Board, and the government of India - is organising the All-India Crafts Mela 2012, from 15 to 31 December, from 10:30am to 8:30pm everyday.
The Crafts Mela provides a platform for rural artisans to exhibit and sell their products in the mela, thus providing direct access to customers. A live artisans' exhibition will also be organized, showing artisans engaged in their crafts like handlooms, pottery, stone carving, painting, bangle making, lacing of cloth etc.
Around 550 stalls (150 handloom stalls, 150 handicrafts stalls, 50 jute board stalls and 200 Shilparamam stalls) will be put up in above mela from all over the country.
The handloom stalls will showcase Mangalagiri, Venkatagiri, Gadwal, Patola, Puna Silk, Tie & Dye, Pulkari, Kota, Tussar, Krtha, Bagh Print, Chanderi, Maheshwari, hand embroidered sarees, Kalamkari handlooms & Kashmiri shawls.
The handicraft stalls will exhibit terracotta, blue pottery, white metal, brass idols, wooden furniture, Madhubani paintings, patachitra paintings, Tanjore paintings, pearls jewellery, kondapalli toys, mysore crafts, dry flowers, carpets etc.
During the evening, cultural programmes involving performances of Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Kathak, devotional songs and folk songs will be organized by eminent artists at the amphitheatre and the night bazar.
Folk arts such as Tappata Gullu, walking on the rope, Janapada Nruthyalu, Dappulu Nruthyalu, Ladies Dappulu, Chindu Yaksha Ganam, Kolatam, Jungle Monkeys, Koys Doralu, Adavi Manushulu, Chiratla Bhajana etc. will also be performed.
