AITA (the All-India Tennis Association) is conducting an under-16 tennis tournament in memory of the veteran tennis player, the late Murali Krishna Murthy, from the 3rd to the 7th August. The matches will be played from 9am to 4pm, at Indira Park.
Participants from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi and other states are taking part in the tournament. 32 girls and 40 boys will be participating, with Anushka Bhargave as top seed for the girls, and S K Mukund for the boys.
About 16 to 20 matches will be played everyday, including singles and doubles, and mixed doubles. The finals will be on the 7th August. The winner will be awarded a cup by the chief guest, Seethamma, wife of Murali Krishna Murthy.
The tournament is being organised by Transworld Sports Foundation, an organization founded by Muneer Ahmed and S R Vijay Raj. This is the second year of the tournament. The Foundation regularly conducts many such tournamnents to provide a platform for upcoming talent. Muneer Ahmed is the chief referee and AITA supervisor, and is also the chief coach of the Indira Park Tennis Camp.
