SiliconAndhra in Association with Department of Culture, Government of Andhra Pradeshis presenting the 2nd International Kuchipudi Dance Convention from December 24th to 26th, 2010 in Hyderabad. Kuchipudi dance has its origins from a small village called Kuchipudi in Andhra Pradesh, India. During the 13th century, the dance was formalized by a saint called Siddhendra Yogi and from then on it spreads around the world.

This is the FIRST time ever an international convention is planned in India in the centuries old history of this dance form to bring together five generations of dancers from living Legends to Learners onto one stage. More than 5000 delegates are expected to attend from all around the world. During the convention, one would witness lecture demonstrations, panel discussions, exhibits, workshops and of course GRAND performances.

The state-of-the-art and prestigious Hyderabad International Convention Center HICC is going to be the place to host our Kuchipudi Convention. HICC is the BEST Convention Center in India built with international standards. Sumptuous 'Telugu Bhojanam' would be served at the sprawling HITEX domes.

The Convention’s objectives are many. Collectively coming together to celebrate the Six hundred year old dance form is in itself paying rich tributes to our Telugu culture and heritage. Any art form’s flourishing is directly proportional to the mass patronage it would receive. With this convention, we all could work together to enhance the image of Kuchipudi dance form on a world stage and play a part for its perpetuation into future.

Intellectual debate (mEdhO madhanam) is essential for the healthy growth of an art form yet retaining its classical and traditional roots, especially in the current times. Convention aims to have a healthy debate. Next generation youngsters’ interaction with the attending Legends is essential and that sure motivates and inspires them to take pride in their own heritage and roots. Convention also aims in making the youngsters realize that this dance form has great past and bright future.

SiliconAndhra is a non-profit organization, established in 2001, with the goals to maintain, preserve, and perpetuate the Telugu Culture, Literature and Tradition. More information could be found at http://kuchipudi.siliconandhra.org
