Perhaps the only thing worse than not getting into IIT Madras is not getting out of it, but Sowmya makes it look good. After Nagarjuna, here's another illustrious IITM dropout.
As part of SICA's 42nd Annual Festival of Music and Dance, eminent vocalist S Sowmya will perform on the fifth day. One of the most accomplished young vocalists of today, Sowmya learnt from the late Dr S Ramanathan and T Mukta. An artiste blessed with a very good voice and a sizeable repertoire, Sowmya has performed extensively in many parts of the world.
A research student in chemistry from IIT Madras, Sowmya discontinued research to pursue a career in music. She has several cassettes and albums to her credit, and has been featured in numerous TV and radio shows. She used her technical knowledge well and produced the first ever CD-ROM and VCD on Carnatic music along with K N Shashikiran, another popular young vocalist.
