On the occasion of Durga Puja celebrations from 15th to 21st October, the Bangiya Sanskritik Sangha of Secunderabad is organising a music nite by the renowned Bengali singer Banasri Ghoshal, on 18th October.
Born in Calcutta to a family with deep insight in Indian music, Banasri began taking lessons in Indian Classical Music at the age of 3. After the completion of her 6 year Sangeet Visharad course from the Allahabad Prayag Sangeet Samity, she trained under Late Krishna Chandra Bandopadhyay and Paresh Santra. Later on she took specialized lessons in Bengali modern songs, geet bhajans, ghazals, Nazrulgeet, puratani and Rabindra Sangeet from legends in the field like Prabir Majumder, Chinmoy Chattopadhyay, Sukumar Mitra, Purabi Dutta, Prasad Sen, Chandidas Mal, to name a few, when she was in close contact with the Bengal Music College, Calcutta.
Ghoshal started singing professionally in 1995, and has participated in many prestigious stage performances like the Haldia Utsav, the State Youth Festival, the National Youth Festival, the Biswa Bango Sammellan, the Nazrul Birth Ceremony, and cultural programs conducted by the Govt. and private organizations in different parts of the country.
Her first vocal musical album, Lukabo Prem Ki Kore, was released on "Poila Baisakh" by Raga Music. The album is based on 8 modern Bengali love songs. One of these songs is based on a Bengali folk tune, and is very popular in Bangladesh. Gifted with a melodious and sweet voice, Banasri is a rage among the young generation.
