Shilparamam, as part of Navaratri festivities, is organising an evening of Kuchipudi dance by students of Sri Sharada Nruthya Niketan, on 14th October. The students, disciples of Sailaja Prasad, will start with a couple of solo performances lasting about a half hour, and will follow that up with a one-hour Kuchipudi dance ballet, Classical Dances Of India & National Integration.
The ballet is a constitution of six national dances of India - Kuchipudi, Bharatanatyam, Odissi, Kathak, Mohini Attam and Manipuri. Students of the institute, Revathi, Yashaswini, Kalaroopa, Tejaswi, Rukmini, Anitha, Neeharika, Dharani, Ramya and Vaishnavi, will together perform this ballet choreographed by their guru Sailaja Prasad.
Sri Sharada Nruthya Niketan was founded by Mulupuru Sailaja Prasad, about 20 years ago. Shailaja is a famous Kuchipudi dancer of international repute. She has an M A in Kuchipudi from the Potti Sriramulu Telugu University, under Suma Rama Rao. She started her initial training under Late Joshula Sri Rama Sastry, and now takes advice from Dr. Shobha Naidu.
She has received various awards, like the Excellency Award from the European Telugu Association, the Visistha Puraskar from Vaishnavi Arts, and the Eminent Lady Award from the Lions Club of India. The students of the institute have given performances all over India, and also abroad at places like London, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
