As part of the Vijay Jawan Mela shopping festival, Shilparamam is presenting a Kuchipudi dance ballet called Devi Vijayam by Koka Vijayalakshmi & her disciples, on 26th October. The ballet starts with a Vinayaka Stuthi, followed by Mahisha Daruvu - the demon Mahishasura receiving of the boon of death by a woman only - and finally the Aigiri Nandini - the battle between the Mother God and the demon, which ends with the slaying of the demon.
Thirteen dancers - Vijayalakshmi, Ravi Teja, Indira Ramakrishna, Radhika Reddy, Spoorthi, Tulasi Sameera, Jaichitra, Naina, Sumalatha, Srinivas, Jagadish, Sai Teja and Laxman - are participating in this ballet, choreographed by Koka Vijayalakshmi. The orchestra for the recital is by K V Subrahmanyam with the nattuvangam, Lavanya and Murali with the vocals, Nageshwara Rao on the mridangam, Anil on the violin and Venkatesh on the flute.
Koka Vijayalakshmi has done her M A in Kuchipudi for the Telugu University and also has an M Phil in Tourism Management. Currently she is pursuing her Ph D on the topic of Indian Temple Sculpture In Relation To Indian Classical Dances. She is a disciple of K V Subrahmanyam since 20 years.
Vijayalakshmi has performed all over India and in festivals such as the Mysore Fest in Hampi and the Chakradhar Fest in Raigad. She has also been to countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, UAE, Poland, Turkey and Bulgaria, and performed to a good response from the audience.
She received many awards, such as the Abhinaya Best Youth Dancer 2006 from Abhinaya Nritya Bharathi in Eluru, Best Kuchipudi Dancer from Dubai Telugu Velugu, and the Golden Award from the Malaysia Telugu Association on the occasion of its Golden Jubilee Celebrations.
Vijayalakshmi has also established an institute of Kuchipudi, Sri K R K M Memorial Academy Of Fine Arts, in which she teaches more than 50 students with the nuances of the fine art.
