The diva and her disciples are live tonite. And landing them grace is none other than Annamacharya himself!
On the occasion of 504th vardhanti (death anniversary) of the great saint Annamacharya, Vaishnavi Kuchipudi Nritya Kala Niketan is presenting a Kuchipudi dance recital called Annamacharya Sankeertanam Shobha Nartanam, by Dr Shobha Naidu and her disciples, on 15th March, at Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha.
Dr Shobha Naidu and her disciples, namely Saraswati Purnima, Ushakiran, Vijaya, Lavanya and Srilakshmi, will be presenting some Annamacharya keertanas such as Saptagiri Nadhudu, Paluke Tenela Talli and Adenu Alivelu Manga.
Natyacharya Mahankali Mohan with the nattuvangam, Sweta Renuka Prasad with the vocals, P R C Sarma on the mridangam, Kolanka Saikumar on the violin, J Dattatreya on the flute, Keshavaram & Madhava with the make-up, B Nagaiah with the costumes and Surabhi Venu Madhava with the lighting will render the support for the recital.
Dr Naidu is among the foremost Kuchipudi dancers of India and an outstanding disciple of the renowned master Vempati Chinna Satyam. She mastered the technique of Kuchipudi and began enacting lead roles in dance-dramas while still very young. She has performed with her guru’s troupe all over the country and abroad, excelling in the roles of Satyabhama, Padmavati etc.
She is also an excellent solo dancer. A recipient of the title of Nritya Choodamani from the Krishna Gana Sabha, Madras, she also received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for her contribution to Kuchipudi dance in 1990. Her biggest honor, of course, is the Padmasri that she received 3 years back.
Founder and Principal of the Kuchipudi Art Academy in Hyderabad, Dr Naidu has been imparting training to younger students over the past few years. She has also choreographed several dance-dramas, like Bhagavad Gita and Vipranarayana.
