The biggest youth festival of Hyderabad is here. At least that's what the CBITians think, and there's only one way to find out - being there!
Chaitanya Smruti, the Alumni Association of the Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology (CBIT), is organising "Carpe Diem", the biennial cultural fest, on 9th September at CBIT Campus in Gandipet.
There will be a special musical night by our own Karunya, and a DJ night by India’s premier DJ, DJ Suketu, that promises to keep everyone foot-tapping and jittering. To pep you up further, one of the biggest Asian bands 'Jal' will be performing for the first time at any campus event. This adds a further blasting touch to the event.
Karunya, a Hyderabad-born singer, is the only South-Indian to have made it to the finals of the Indian Idol contest. He's been singing since he was three, and cut an album of his own in his childhood called Chiru Sarigamalu, which was launched by Tollwood actor Chiranjeevi. He also went on to win Paaduta Teeyaga, hosted by S P Balasubrahmanyam. Apart from various shows in India, he has also recently done a range of concerts in the US.
DJ Suketu is a winner of the national DMC World DJ Mixing Championship, and has done an advanced course in mixing and DJing at the DJ Mixing Club in London. He runs a company, Audio Elite, that does sound, lights, DJ training and management in Mumbai. He's risen to fame with mixes like Bin Tere Sanam, Yaara Dildara, Pyaar Zindagi Hai and Bombay In My Soul.
Jal, a music band from Pakistan, comprises of Goher Mumtaz as lead vocalist, guitarist, lyricist, composer and founder of the band, Farhan Saeed as the lead vocalist, and Shazi (Aamir) is the bass guitarist. Apart from the three full-time band members, Jal's live act includes Waqar Khan on the drums and Sultan Raja on the rhythm guitars.
Jal's debut album Aadat was declared the best-selling album of 2004, and it was followed by the release of Woh Lamhey and Dil Haarey. This year, Jal won at the MTV Asia Awards 2006 and the IM Awards Best Rock Band Award in Pakistan.
The entry to the concert is by tickets, priced at Rs. 800, Rs. 600, Rs. 250 and Rs. 100 each. Please contact Narasimha Reddy, co-ordinator of the event, at 98855-74277 for further details.
