It's not flattering if your husband plays the tabla as you talk. Ramamani, however, will have it no other way.
Sangeeta Ksheerasagaram, in association with Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha, and in memory of late Uppalapati Ankaiah, is organising a Carnatic vocal recital by Sangeetamani R A Ramamani, at Kala Subbarao Kala Vedika in Chikkadpally. Poosarla Manorama on the violin, T A S Mani (Ramamani's husband) on the mridangam and P V Ramana Murthy on the ghatam will provide the instrumental support.
Vice-Principal of the Karnataka College of Percussion, R A Ramamani is a distinguished vocalist, performing artist, lecturer and composer. Her singing is outstanding for her spontaneity, and mastery of rhythm and melody. Widely known for her vocal improvisations, complex rhythmic patterns and konnakol, a type of percussion language, she is the first female artist who achieved distinction in singing a composition simultaneously set to two different rhythm cycles.
A disciple of R K Srikantan, Ramamani has boldly experimented with Western forms of music, and has written seven melodic and rhythmic experimental compositions. She is the first female classical musician in India to sing with national and international jazz ensembles. Currently she is a Lecturer at the Institute of Choreography in Bangalore. She is the wife of the mridangam exponent T A S Mani, the Principal of the Karnataka College of Percussion.
Sangeeta Ksheerasagaram has been organizing classical music shows in memory of Late Uppalapati Ankaiah. As a tribute to the legend, it promotes upcoming and established artists by inviting them to perform in these concerts.
