The South Indian Cultural Association (SICA) is organizing a 5-day golden jubile festival of music concerts from the 15th to the 19th of this month. As part of this, it has roped in renowned vocalists and instrumentalists including A Kanya Kumari (violin), T V Sankaranarayanan (vocal), Rajhesh Vaidhya (veena), Neyveli Santhanagopalan (vocal) and Bombay Jayasri (vocal). Neyveli Santhanagopalan, a senior Carnatic vocalist, will perform this evening.
Neyveli R Santhanagopalan is a versatile musician who learnt music under the tutelage of illustrious gurus like Chembai C S Ananthamani Bhagavathar and Srirangam Ranganathan. He had intensive gurukulam education under the maestro Madurai T N Seshagopalan, which helped him to turn into a complete artist.
Highly creative and innovative, Santhanagopalan is known for music that is deeply evolved around bhakti and bhava, yet being attractive and entertaining. A notable feature of his concerts is Visranthi, the ability to present his music in a perfect kalapramana, with a very relaxed attitude, making for a memorable listening experience.
A recognized Grade A artiste on All-India Radio and Doordarshan, he is also a regular at all the major music halls in the Carnatic music circuit. He has frequently toured India and outside for concerts. He was conferred upon the titles Isai Peroli by Kartik Fine Arts, Vanikala Sudhakara by Thyaga Brahma Gana Sabha, Nada Bhooshanam by Shanmukhananda Sabha, Delhi, and Vidhwan and Asthana Vidwan by the Sringeri Math.
