Several women can make you melt with a look. Tonite, Chitra connects you with the most famous of 'em all.
Shilparamam, as part of the Navaratri festivities, is organising an evening of Carnatic vocal recital by Chitra Nagaraj, on 29th September.
Chitra will be presenting a couple of Devi and Trinity keerthanas, like Sri Gayathri Kanjadalayakshi, Jayalakshmi Varalakshmi and Bhuvaneshwariya Nene Manasa. The orchestra accompanying her are M V Subrahmanya Prasad on the mridangam and Nagamaleshwar Rao on the violin. Two more artistes, Uma Krishna Kumar and Lakshmi Shankar, will be rendering vocal support to Chitra.
Chitra Nagaraj is a professional singer, having learnt music from the famed Alathur Brothers and Jayalakshmi Santhanam. She is a B-High graded artiste of the All India Radio. Her husband, Nagaraj, is a Hindustani classical singer and an A grade artiste of the AIR. He has trained about 1,500 musicians at her music institution, Shruthi Music and Cultural Academy, which was established in 1985 and now has about 120 students.
Aspiring students come to learn music from Chitra primarily after witnessing her concerts and performances, as she does not propagate her institute - that makes the numbers even more impressive. She has given many performances in India, and also abroad at places like Auckland and Singapore. She has received the Sangeeta Nataka Academy Fellowship, and has recently composed Annamacharya keerthanas on Narasimha Swamy.
