Kalasagaram is presenting its Annual Youth Festival of Dance from 14th to 16th March, at the Keyes High School For Girls, Secunderabad. This 3-day festival will feature three young and upcoming dancers, S Geetha Krishna, Neha and Mashantha Vishwanathan.
S Geetha Krishna will be performing a Bharatanatyam recital on the opening day. Geetha is a promising disciple of Geetha Ganesan, having won many accolades and awards. She had her arangetram in June 2007, at the Ravindra Bharathi.
Geetha started her pursuit of music with Carnatic vocal at a tender age of 5. But she gradually envinced keen interest towards dance six years ago, and so came under the able guidance of Abhinaya Kala Rathna Geetha Ganesan at Uttaraa, a premier institute of performing arts, where her remarkable talent was further refined under the institute's directors Ganesan and Jayaprada Ramaswamy.
Geetha has been the protagonist of several dance dramas of the institute, playing Sri Rama in Sita Kalyanam, Sita in Shatasloki Ramayana, Kali in Devi Mahatyam, Rukmini in Rukmini Kalyanam and Krishna in Bala Mukundam. She has performed at all the past 6 anniversaries of her institute, and is the first recipient of the CCRT scholarship from the institute in the Bharatanatyam category.
Geetha has been part of several group performances of her institute at NISIET, Kalasagaram, SICA, the Dept. of Tourism And Culture, Shilparamam, and the Brahmotsavams in Yadagirigutta. She was also part of the troupe that toured Sri Lanka in May/June 2006.
Kalasagaram organises a youth festival of dance every year where upcoming artistes are invited from all over the country, particularly South India. It also organises a youth festival of music, the last edition of which organised last month had Poornima Krishnan, Maharajapuram S Ganesh Vishwanathan and N Harish performing.
Kalasagaram is a South-Indian cultural association situated in the East Nehru Nagar of East Marredpally, and has been organising Carnatic music concerts for more than 35 years. The concerts are usually held in the open-air theater of the Keyes High School campus. The singers are generally from outside Hyderabad, usually amateurs and upcoming artistes, and quite competent. Kalasagaram also occasionally stages South-Indian classical dances and Tamil plays.
