Kalasagaram is organising a vocal music concert by S Kasturi Rangan, on 15th Nov, at Keyes High School. Accompanying him are Surya Deepthi on the violin, Thanjavur Kumar on the mridangam, and K Krishna Prakash on the kanjeera. The concert starts at 6:30pm.
Kasturi Rangan is a diploma holder in Carnatic music from the University of Bombay, and a B A in Indian music from the University of Madras. His intial music lessons were at the Shanmukhananda Sangeetha Vidyalaya, Mumbai, for 10 years, under Shakuntala. He trained in Navagraha kritis, Navavarna kritis and Swarajatis under Kalyani Sarma. He learnt the mridangam from K R Chandramouli, and took an advanced training from Padma Bhushan Madurai T N Seshagopalan. Through the Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar Scholarship by the Music Academy, he then tutored under Calcutta K S Krishnamoorthy. He was also a disciple of Vidwan S Ramachandran.
Rangan has performed all over the country and abroad, in Australia and Malaysia. He has several prizes, awards and titles to his credit, including 'Yuva Kala Bharathi' from Bharat Kalachar, 'Shanmukha Sangeeta Mani' from Sri Shanmukhananda Sabha (Mumbai), 'Sur Mani' from Sur Singar Sansad (Mumbai), and the award for the best singer in the Spirit of Youth Concert by Music Academy (Chennai).
Kalasagaram is a south-Indian cultural association based in Hyderabad, and has been organising concerts for more than 35 years. Besides encouraging amateurs and upcoming artistes in the field of Carnatic music, Kalasagaram also stages South-Indian classical dances and Tamil plays.
