Vidushi Bombay Jayashri Ramnath, is a singer, composer and a teacher, who by now enjoys a large and devoted patronage across the world. She is a unique combination of adherence to tradition while experimenting with different Indian and international art forms, a trait which makes her accessible to much larger groups than the purists.
Jayashri Ramnath belongs to the fourth generation of music practitioners in her family and has learnt from none other than Shri Lalgudi G Jayaraman and Smt T R Balamani. She has won a number of awards ranging from the Sangeetha Choodamani to the Nadabhooshanam. She was the first Carnatic classical performer in the Opera House in Durban and the Russian Opera House in Helsinki, Finland. She also won the Filmfare award for composing music for Vaseegara.
Her compositions have embellished dance ballets and documentaries as well, and more recently she has started using music to promote Indian literature and other art-forms. For example, she has written music for a ballet based on the Tamil Epic 'Silapadhikaaram'.
On the 12th of March, Bombay Jayashri will be in Hyderabad, in a program at Ravindra Bharathi, starting from 1800 hrs. Please contact 2323-3672 for further details.
