Laya Trust is celebrating its 4th anniversary, and on this occasion is organising a violin recital by Avasarala Kanyakumari, on 19th May, at Sri Thyagaraya Gana Sabha. D S R Murthy will provide the mridangam support.
The program starts at 6:00pm with a prize distribution ceremony for the winners of the music competitions conducted during the month of April, followed by the felicitation of violin vidwan Kuppuswamy. The violin recital of Avasarala Kanyakumari starts at 7:00pm.
Kanyakumari is an extraordinary accompanist, soloist, teacher, innovator, composer and organizer. She has been instrumental in bringing many a musical talent to the forefront. She has a B A in Carnatic Music, and trained under Ivathuri Vijayeswara Rao of the AIR, M Chandrashekharan, and thereafter M L Vasantha Kumari.
She has performed at USA, Canada, France, Holland, Belgium, Switzerland, Sweden, Malaysia, Singapore and Sri Lanka, besides India. She was awarded with the title Dhanurveena Pravina by Sangeeta Kalanidhi Late M S Subbulakshmi, when she completed 25 years as a violinist. Awards have flooded her career that has spanned over three decades - Kalaimamani, Ugadi Puraskar, Sunada Vani, Sangeetha Ratna and Sangeeta Kala Nipuna to name a few.
With a voice known for its high tonal quality and silken bowing, she has a dedication to teaching that has made her a very sought after teacher. And for talented students, she teaches without charging a fee.
