Rasaranjani, as part of its monthly program of theatre, is presenting a Telugu play Veluthurulo Cheekati, on 20th & 21st December, at Thyagaraya Gana Sabha in Chikkadpally. The play is written by Srisaila Murthy and directed by Mikkili Francis.
Veluthurulo Cheekati is a play centred around print and electronic media. Due to heavy competition and to increase their subscriber base, the media creates a mountain out of a molehill by airing rumours to sensationalise issues. Through the play, Rasaranjani aims to highlight the real meaning of journalism and why the pen is said to be mightier than the sword. Francis as Murali Mohan, B Narayana as the critic, Samaikhya Bharathi Satyanarayana as Dharmateja and C Narayana Swamy as Jacob play the central characters in the play.
Rasaranjini was established in March 1993, with a staging of the famous play Kanya Sulkam. In the 13 years since its inception, it has staged about 1,900 plays. It stages a play every month at Thyagaraya Gana Sabha, to promote this neglected art form.
The association not only stages its own productions, but also gets groups from outside and pays for their staging. It also trains in acting and mime. K V Ramana, IAS, is its president. Most of the members are renowned theatre personalities.
The entry to the play is by tickets of Rs. 10 per head, available at the venue on both the days. Please contact M Kameshwara Rao at 98661-87501 for further details.
