Kalasagaram is organizing a veena concert by a reputed maestro, Achala Sankarnath, today. She will be supported by P Srinivasa Gopalan on mridangam, and Jayakumar Acharya on ghatam. The show starts at 6:00pm, and entry is free for all.
Achala Sankarnath learnt veena under Pappu Someshwara Rao, Kalaimamani Dr Suma Rajeshwari, Bandi Shyamala Subramaniam and D Srinivas. She is currently undergoing an advanced training under Jayamani Narasimham. She has done her MA in carnatic music from Telugu University, and is a grade 'B' artist of AIR. She has been giving veena performances at several places in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka for the past 15 years.
Achala is the managing trustee of Mahati Art Foundation, and runs the Mahati Institute of Veena. She has recorded and released an audio compilation of popular kritis in carnatic music, titled Hamsanandini.
