Handicrafts unfortunately are stuff that are becoming increasingly anachronous in a completely Mattel and mill age, and it's a pity these people can't do anything else. A lot of us can't do anything apart from what we do for a living either, so isn't it sad that these people, doing better stuff, are worse off?
The Pondicherry Pudumai Handicrafts Artisans Cooperative Society Limited (PPHACSL) is organizing a Pondicherry Art Fair for a period of 11 days. Hemalatha Devi, the Managing Director of the A P Handicrafts Development Corporation will inaugurate the exhibition on the 25th, and I H P Rao, Assistant Director, Ministry of Textiles will preside over the function.
The District Industries Center, Government of Pondicherry, supports PPHACSL, which has 156 master craftspersons under its society. The society, registered in 1997, has been set up to support and aid poor craftspersons. It has conducted exhibitions in Pondicherry and in other parts of the country for their benefit.
