D-Fir, a theatre production group from Hyderabad, is presenting a play, 'Tax Free', on the evening of the 4th of July, at RNR Auditorium Banjara Hills. Tax Free was the first play from their kitty of scripts.
'Tax Free' is an English play, translated from the Marathi original, which was written in 1993 by Chandrashekhar Phansalkar. The play fuses entertainment with subtle touches of humour at the expense of new members of a blind men's club that shows a world of 'tax-free entertainment'. It talks about a group of blind men trying to overcome their physical disability with a an open-minded perspective towards life, and also about their fervent efforts to entertain themselves. Tax Free is a one-act play, and an hour and 10 minutes long.
Run by Deeksha Marur and Firdous Majeed, D-Fir was conceptualized with the intention of shattering the elitist veneer cloaking the art. They plan to take theatre to schools and colleges, and make it accessible to everyone, and hope to bring together the large market of aspiring dramatists, playwrights and actors, who in turn, wish to bring about a revolution in the field of theatre in the twin cities.
