Salarjung Museum & Historical Society of Hyderabad cordially invite you to a talk on The Powerful and the Precious: Two ongoing shows of Contemporary Indian Art at the Salar Jung Museum By Dr. Kirtana Thangavelu.
Dr. Kirtana Thangavelu received her degrees in Art History from the Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S. University Baroda and Kala Bhavana, Visva Bharati University in Santiniketan West Bengal. She got her PhD in Art History from the University of California at Berkeley, her thesis was titled "The Painted Puranas of Telangana: A Study of a Scroll Painting Tradition from South India". She has worked on the Kalamkari tradition of Srikalahasti, Painted Havelis of Shekhavati in Rajasthan and on picture storytelling traditions that use visual aids in Telangana. She is currently a Continuing Lecturer at the University of California at Santa Cruz and an Associate Professor in the Department of Fine Arts, SN School, University of Hyderabad.
