How many light bulbs does it take Sankaranarayanan to light up a room? None. The very presence of this vocalist is enough to light up an entire auditorium. Just like he'll do today.
As part of SICA's 42nd Annual Festival of Music and Dance, eminent vocalist T V Sankaranarayanan will perform on the fourth day. A nephew of the great Madurai Mani Iyer, Sankaranarayanan grew up in an atmosphere of music and imbibed the best elements of vocal music from his uncle. Endowed with a rich, vibrant voice, he is in great demand all over the world, and never fails to give his best to please his fans.
One of the most sought after, widely acclaimed and popular senior vocalists today, Sankaranarayanan was born on 7th March 1945 in Mayuram (Tanjavur District, Tamil Nadu). He commenced his tutelage under Mani Iyer at the age of nine.
Popularly known as TVS, the Carnatic vocalist is popular among both pundits and lay listeners, and is the recipient of several titles. In 1990, the government of India honored him with the coveted Sangeet Natak Akademi award. Others include - Sangeetha Ratnakara, Sangeetha Chudamani, Innisaiperarasu Gayaka Sikhamani, Swara Laya Ratnakara, Ganakalaratnam, Gana Kalanidhi and Gandharva Ganamani.
