The 159th anniversary of the mukthi of the brilliant saint and composer Thyagaraja is here, and it is time for large-scale, yet beautifully synchronised festivities, and the rendition of his krithis that are the hallmark of this day. The Lakshmi Narasimha Jayanthi Utsava Kainkarya Committee has been organising the traditional functions of this day for many years, and this one is no exception.
The Unchavriti - the singing of the aaradhana by rasikas and bhagavatas to the accompaniment of violin, mridangam and cymbals, in a procession that walks down to the venue of the festivities (symbollically the Thyagaraja samadhi) will start at 0700 hrs. Bhajans and Divya Naama Kritis composed by Thyagaraja will be sung, to relive the mendicant's life that the saint adopted. Once the musicians are finally assembled at the Srirangam Srimad Andavan Ashramam, they will perform abhishekam and alankar.
Then will begin the final and most breathtaking tradition of all - the rendition of the pancharatna kritis in unison. Jagadanandakaraka in Natai, Dudughugala in Gowlai, Sadhinchane in Raga Aarabhi, Kanakanaruchira in Varali Raaga, Yendaromahanubhavule in Sri Raaga will be sing in unison by the hundreds of musicians expected to be present.
