REVIEW FOR SRI SRI'S POETRY BY...

Eminent poets Goreti Venkanna and Dr. Yakub will be presenting a cluster of poems written by Sri Sri, on 22nd March, at LaMakaan, Banjara Hills.

Goreti Venkanna is a popular poet and folk singer. He became popular as a judge for the folk music program Rela Re Rela on the Telugu TV channel MAA TV. He is an activist for the cause of separate statehood for Telangana.

Dr. Yakub is a contemporary poet. He won the Telugu University Best Poetry Anthology Award for "Sarihaddu Rekha", among other awards. His latest work "Yedathegani Prayaanam", a collection of poems written upto the year 2009, was published recently.

Srirangam Srinivasarao (2 Jan 1910 - 15 June 1983), better known as Sri Sri, was a famous Telugu poet and lyricist. He was born into a traditional Telugu Brahmin family from Visakhapatnam. He was known for having helped in shedding the long-standing elitism of Telugu literature and in making it more approachable to the common man.

Sri Sri wrote about contemporary issues that affected the day-to-day life of the common man, in a style and metre which were not used in classical Telugu poetry. Sri Sri was given the title Mahakavi (Great Poet). His book Maha Prasthanam (The Great Journey), an anthology of poems, is one of his major works. Some other works of his include Siprali, and Khadga Srushti (Creation of the Sword).
