Silk Sutra, a colourful exhibition of traditional handloom silks, is on from 11th to 14th March, at the Kamma Sangham Community Hall, Ameerpet. It is being presented by weavers specializing in hand-woven and handcrafted silk saris, fabrics and accessories in traditional as well as contemporary styles. 20 weavers from across the country will be participating in this exhibition.
This exhibition is being organized by Eco Tasar Silk P Limited, a marketing company promoted by PRADAN, a national award winning NGO for its tasar livelihood project which creates work opportunities for over 25,000 tribal families, 2,500 rural women and 300 weavers. The project is sponsored by M P Silk Federation Ltd., Bhopal, actively engaged in promoting tussar, mulberry and eri silks in Madhya Pradesh.
This exhibition-cum-sale showcases a range of saris in Patolas, Paithanis, Kanjeevarams, Banarasis, Bhagalpur and Raigarh varieties of tussars, Ikats, Shiboris, Bandhanis, Kalamkaris, Kanthas and Block Prints. Silk, Chanderi and Maheshwari and many more styles, including fusion styles, are available here. The exhibition aims to bring traditional and contemporary styles and designs under one roof, and to highlight the country's textile heritage.
