ICONART gallery is conducting an exhibition of paintings, titled Secret Garden, by Prabir Kumar Dalai. The exhibition is on from 5th August to 20th August, and is open from 11:30am to 7pm everyday.
Secret Garden consists of a collection of landscapes, incorporated with the artist's dreams and fantasies about nature. Dalai has used vibrant shades of pinks and blues to describe nature in a colorful and unique way. The paintings will describe nature and the environment from the artist's perspective.
Prabir Kumar has done his Bachelors of Fine Arts (Painting) from Utkal University in Orissa in 1993 and his Masters of Fine Art (Painting) from Indira Kala Sangeet Viswavidyalaya in Khairagarh (Madhya Pradesh) in 1997. He also qualified in the NET (UGC's National Eligibility Test)) in 2000, and has some scholarships to his credit - the National Scholarship from the National Lalit Kala Akademi (New Delhi), Junior Fellowship from the Ministry Of Culture, Govt. of India, and a scholarship for higher studies from the State Lalit Kala Akademi in Orissa.
He has done a solo show at Hotel Oberoi in Bhubaneswar, and has also been a part of many group shows, some of which are Concoction - An Exhibition Of Young Painters, at Rashtriya Lalit Kala Kendra (Bhubaneswar) in 1999; Orissa Contemporary Art at Son-Et-Lumiere Art Gallery (Mumbai); 5 Contemporary Artists from Orissa - An Exhibition Of Paintings, at the Birla Academy Of Art & Culture (Kolkata); Young Faces In Contemporary Indian Art - A Group Show, organized by the Birla Academy Of Art & Culture (Kolkata); Group Show at Shankar Dev Kala Kshetra (Guwahati) organized by Amulya Sahitya Sansad; On the Move - A Contemporary Group Exhibition organized by Raga Ranga, a socio-cultural centre, in collaboration with the Department of Culture, Orissa; and a group Show at Lalit Kala Akademi, Rabindra Bhawan, New Delhi.
He was awarded the State Award from the Orissa Lalita Kala Akademi (Bhubaneswar) in 1999, and the India Fine Art & Craft Society (State) Award in 2000. Apart from these, he was also honored by Surabhi Educational Society in Hyderabad in 1997, Svarna Samaroh of the Bhubaneswar Culture Festival in 1997, Chanda Charan Smruti Sansada in Orissa in 2001, and by Amulya Sahitya Sansad in Guwahati in 2005. His works are exhibited in private collections in Japan, Germany, UK, Ireland, New Delhi, Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Hyderabad, Khairagarh, and Bhopal. He is now the Head of The Department Of Painting at Dhauli College Of Art & Craft in Bhubaneswar.
The preview is on 5th August at 6pm, and the paintings are on display till 20th Aug. Entry is free for everyone.
