Carnatic Vocal Concert By Mangalampalli Swarna: Events in Hyderabad

On the occasion of the 164th birth anniversary of saint Thyagaraja, as well as the 34th anniversary of the samithi, Vignana Samithi is organising its annual Thyagaraja Aradhana Music Festival from 24th to 30th January at the Anand Nagar Community Hall, Khairatabad.

On 29th January, Mangalampalli Swarna will present a Carnatic vocal recital at 6:00pm.

Swarna was a child prodigy who started singing at the very young age of just 2 years. She was born in 1978, and was introduced to music in 1980 under the late Susarla Sivaram. She gave her first stage performance at the age of 3, and now has more than 500 Carnatic and light music concerts all over India in her archives. During a short span of only 5 years (1980-85) with Susarla Sivaram, she learnt over 150 rare keertanas and tillanas.

Swarna has completed her B A and M A in music from Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University, and is currently pursuing her doctorate in music from Padmavathi Mahila University under Dwaram Lakshmi. She is a B-grade artiste of the AIR in Carnatic and light music.

She has been conferred upon numerous awards and prizes including the Bala Bharathi Award, the National Award from the Bhakta Ramadas Government College of Music (Secunderabad), the Neraval Award from the Krishna Gana Sabha, and titles such as Bala Ratna from Andhra Balananda Sangam and Bala Viswakala Jyothi from Viswakala Parishad.

She was a recipient of the CCRT scholarship for 12 years and the HRD scholarship for 2 years. At present, she is training under the famed Hyderabad Brothers, D Raghavachari and D Seshachari, and has founded a cultural association called Suswara Academy Of Performing Arts through which she organises musical nites and light music programs.

Vignana Samithi, which is in its 34th year of existence, tries to propagate classical music by organising music concerts every month. It provides a platform for upcoming artistes by giving them opportunities to perform, and at the same time, gets senior artistes to perform and conduct workshops. Many senior artistes have performed for the organisation including Dr. Balamurali Krishna, the Malladi Brothers, the Hyderabad Brothers and Sankaranarayanan.
