The 38th Pandit Motiram Pandit Maniram Sangeet Samaroh is being organized by the Department of Culture, together with Sangeet Martand Pandit Jasraj. It is a 3-day music festival, from 29th November to 1st December, and is being conducted at the Chowmahalla Palace. Performers during the festival include Bharatanatyam dancer Shirisha Shashank, sitarist Manju Mehta, flautist Master S Akash, tabla player Pt. Anindo Chatterjee, saxophonist Kadiri Gopalnath, and vocalists Pt. Sanjeev Anhayankar, Ankita Joshi and Madhup Mudgal. Madhup Mudgal from Delhi will perform a Hindustani vocal recital on the last day of the festival today, at 8:30pm.

Mudgal was initiated into Hindustani music by his father Vinaya Chandra Maudgalya, and was later a student of Vasant Takar and Pandit Jasraj, and eventually of Kumar Gandharva. He studied at Delhi's Modern School, after which he went on to focus on music, receiving the gold medal in M A (Music). He then obtained an M Phil from the University Of Delhi for his research in the structure of Khayal. He received the national scholarship for music from 1976 to 1978.

Mudgal is a regular performer at important platforms and festivals in India and abroad. As an A-grade artist of the All-India Radio, he features regularly on AIR's national programs. He now teaches at Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Delhi, and is also the conductor of the Gandharva choir.

About The Festival

In memory of his late father Pandit Motiram and his brother Pandit Maniram, Pandit Jasraj, in association with the Department of Culture, organizes an annual music festival in Hyderabad. Started in 1972, this festival is now in its 38th year. It was originally being held at the Nizam College grounds, which was where Pandit Jasraj's father and brother taught music to several students. However, in 2009, the venue was shifted to the Chowmahalla Palace, and continues to be that.

Entry to the samaroh is free. Please contact the Department of Culture at 2324-2482 for further details.
