The Hyderabad Film Club, in association with the Mexican Embassy in New Delhi and the Federation of Film Societies of India, is organising a Mexican Film Festival, from 16th to 18th August, at Sarathi Studios. A total of 5 films directed by Luis Bunuel will be screened during the 3-day film festival.
Nazarin, a 1959 Mexican film, is the last film on the last day, and will be screened at 6:30pm. The film was co-written between Bunuel and Julio Alejandro, and adapted from Benito Perez Galdos' eponymous novel.
It won the international prize at the 1959 Cannes Film Festival, and casts Francisco Rabal as Father Nazario, Marga Lopez as Beatriz, Rita Macedo as Andara, Jesus Fernandez as Hugo, Luis Aceves Castaneda as Parricide, and Ofelia Guilmain as Chanfa.
In the Mexico of the beginning of the XX Century, the humble priest Nazarin shares his misery with the needy that live near the small town of Chanfa. After protecting a prostitute responsible for starting the fire that destroys the hostel, Nazarin is forced to flee the town. While he is travelling, the priest's actions cause a series of conflicts that go against his vision of Christian charity.
Entry is free for everyone. Please contact Bh S S Prakash Reddy, Secretary of the Hyderabad Film Club, at 2373-0841/93910-20243 for further details.
