The Hyderabad Film Club, in collaboration with the Consulate General of the Republic Of Korea in Mumbai, is presenting a Korean Film Festival from 23rd to 29th April, at Prasad Labs Preview Theatre. A total of 9 Korean films will be screened during the week-long festival.
Yoduk Story is the first film to be screened on the 2nd day of the festival. The story of this film is based on stories of political prisoners at the Yoduk concentration camp in North Korea. This musical premiered in the US in October 2006. The writer and director, Jung Sung-San has relied on accounts of others who were at the concentration camp, including Kang Chol-Hwan.
Jung was able to escape North Korea and find his way to South Korea, where, in 2002, he learned that his father had been publicly stoned to death in the North. In his sorrow and anger, he sought out a way to express all his feelings, and promptly began writing this musical. This movie takes the viewer into the scenario prevailing in northern Korea at the time.
Entry to all the films is free, and is on first-come-first-served basis. Please contact Bh Prakash Reddy, Secretary of the Hyderabad Film Club, at 93910-20243 for further details.
