Kalasagaram is presenting an Annual Youth Festival Of Music, from 12th to 14th February, at Keyes Girls High School.
The 2nd day of the festival, 13th February, will feature a Carnatic vocal concert by Lavanya Sundararaman, in memory of Sangeeta Kalanidhi D K Pattammal. The accompanying musicians for the concert are R Dinakar on the violin and Burra Sriram on the mridangam.
Lavanya Sundararaman hails from a family of musicians. She is the great-grand-daughter of the late mridangam maestro Palghat T S Mani Iyer and the late D K Pattamal; the grand-daughter of mridangam Vidwan I Siva Kumar and vocalist Lalitha Siva Kumar; the niece of Kalaimamani Nithyasree Mahadevan; and the daughter of vocalist Gayathri Sundararaman.
Lavanya started her training in music from the legendary musician the late D K Pattamal, and is currently under her aunt Nithyasree Mahadevan and her mother Gayathri Sundararaman. She won several prizes from prestigious institutions that include Narada Gana Sabha, Mylapore Fine Arts and the Madras Music Academy. She has presented concerts not only in India, but in Sri Lanka, Canada, Singapore and Malaysia.
Kalasagaram is a south-Indian cultural association situated in East Nehru Nagar of East Marredpally, and has been organising Carnatic music concerts for more than 35 years now. The concerts are usually held in the Keyes High School campus in the open-air theatre. The singers are generally from outside Hyderabad, usually amateurs and upcoming artistes. Kalasagaram also occasionally stages south-Indian classical dances and Tamil plays.
