Glinting swords and flaming tempers add brilliance to the scourge this summer. Divas hone their metals on stage as Rasaranjani presents the play, Prataparudram Deva.
Prataparudram Deva is a historical play in Telugu, written by one of the greatest writers of the 19th century, Vedam Vankataray Sastry. Prataparudram was a very popular play in the past but is now been performed after a gap of 65 years.
The play is set in the 15th century when Prataparudram Deva is a king of the Kakatya dynasty. The Sultan of Delhi captures him and takes him to his palace. Then the ministers of Prataparudram Deva not only rescue him but also defeat and bring the Sultan to Warangal. The play ends with a bond of friendship being established between the two kings.
Prataparudram Deva uses Aprochita Bhasham, which consists of the local dialect used by fishermen and the washermen.
