Kerala is photographed by Jonathan Watts in a style that not many photographers might have attempted - neither with the elephants nor with the coconut trees, not even with the serene backwaters.
Watts has captured Kerala's temples, their architecture and their sculpture in a manner that depicts the Hindu beliefs of victory of good over evil, and showcases gods and men, as well as village revelry through music, dance, make-up and colorful costumes to communicate directly with their gods. It's almost like giving life to the branding 'God's own country'. So this is what they do in ethnographic field missions!
