Two award functions are being held at Ravindra Bharathi on 11th June from 6:15pm onwards, on the occasion of the 105th birth anniversary of Paidi Lakshmaiah. The functions will be preceded by a Kuchipudi dance program by Sthuthi Vinodini & group.
The first function for the day will be the Paidi Lakshmaiah Pratibha Awards. Four personalities will be felicitated, and will also be presented with Rs. 5,000 each. The recipients are P Ramachandra Reddy, a former speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly from Sangareddy; M Lakshmi Devi from the district of Anantpur, MLC of the Congress Party; Dr. K Anjannapa, the former Registrar of IGNOU; and Mr Koneru Prasad, an industrialist from Chennai.
The next award function will be the Rasamayi Rangasthala Puraskaralu, which carry a cash award of Rs. 1,116 each, and the recipients are A S Murthy, former director of Ravindra Bharathi; N Suri Reddy, a renowned actor and director; L Rudra Murthy from Bellary, a renowned actor and promoter of Rangasthala Natakam; D Bhaskara Rao, an actor from Rae Barelli; and the American Telugu Association, on whose behalf its president G Chandra Reddy will receive the award.
The chief guest for the occasion is the renown film actor Murali Mohan, who will also preside over the ceremony. Dr. C Narayana Reddy will be the Guest of Honour. The awards will be presented by Dr. P L Sanjeeva Reddy, an IAS officer and son of Paidi Lakshmi. R Prabakhar Rao, a former DGP, is also one of the guests.
Paidi Lakshmaiah was born in 1904 and expired on 28th April 1987. He was a freedom fighter, and was part of the first ever Indian Parliament under the Nehru government, as a MP from Anantpur. He was the only non-IAS commisioner of the government endowment department, and helped develop places like Tirupathi & Srisailam. He was also a poet, writer & drama actor, and wrote 6 books during his life. He encouraged literature, cultural & spiritual activities, and hence after his demise, the Paidi Lakshmaiah Trust was set up. The trust felicitates 4 eminent personalities every year, and has been doing so for the last 20 years.
