30,000 people are going to run several kilometers to reach L B Stadium today, where they'll be greeted by YSR. Hopefully they are doing it for the joy of running, and not the, er, reward!
The Andhra Pradesh Olympic Association is organising the Olympic Day Run on the 23rd of June. Around 30,000 sportsmen, fitness freaks and children are expected to participate in this mega event which will start at seven different venues of the city and culminate at the Lal Bahadur Stadium.
The starting points of the run will be Charminar, Victory Playgrounds, YMCA Narayanaguda, Mehdipatnam, Gandhi Statue (Secunderabad), Bowenpally and Ambedkar statue. The torch relays which start at 6:00am at the respective points will reach Lal Bahadur stadium at 8:00am, and will be handed over to the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy there.
The objective of run is to spread the message of sports consciousness and physical fitness. There is no advance registration or registration fee to participate in this event. Anyone interested can reach his/her nearest venue before 6:00am and take part in the event. Water and biscuits will be provided on the way by the sponsorers Lanco Group and ITC Foods.
