The Hyderabad Film Club is screening an Iranian movie titled "Offside" at Sarathi Studios in Ameerpet, on 18th March. The film is directed by Jafar Panahi, and has Shima Mobarak-Shahi, Safar Samandar and Shayesteh Irani playng the lead roles.
The teenage girls in Jafar Panahi's new film Offside have a seemingly simple mission: to make it to the World Cup qualifying match between Iran and Bahrain. But because women are strictly forbidden from entering the stadium, these girls must dress up like boys and dodge a phalanx of soldiers in order to make it inside. Offside takes the gender rules at a soccer stadium and turns it into a discussion about the strict set of forbidden activities that rules Iranian life.
The film is inspired by director Jafar Panahi's daughter, who decided to attend a game anyway. The film was shot in Iran, but its screening was banned there. It was awarded the Silver Bear Jury Prize at the Berlinale International Film Festival.
Entry is free for members of Hyderabad Film Club. Please contact Bh S S Prakash Reddy of the Club at 2373-0841/93910-20243 for further details.
