Here's one of those events that symbolizes what it means to be a Hyderabadi living in Hyderabad. The giant wheel and caramel popcorn romance the city once more.
It's mega shopping time once again this year with the 70th Numaish, the All India Industrial Exhibition, wooing shoppers with the largest ever range of products under one roof. This festival is on from 1st January to 15th February, at the Exhibition Grounds. There are about 2,500 stalls, with participants from our neighbouring countries as well.
The display includes almost everything that one could think of, including apparel, jewellery, electronic home appliances, dry fruits, handmade garments and handicraft items from all over India, leather goods, footwear, tableware, ceramics, and fitness equipment. There are huge discounts on offer on many products, including garments, electronic and home appliances.
A mini-train, the giant wheel, and other joy rides make up the entertainment that the Numaish symbolizes for most. Food courts serving chaat, pav bhajis, piping hot mirchi bajjis and alu bajjis and vadas, and Chinese fast food, have been set up for the perennial nibblers. For the sweet-toothed, there are also sweet and ice-cream stalls.
Started in 1938 with just 100 stalls, the All-India Industrial Exhibition was a local exhibition originally intended to display indigenously produced goods in the erstwhile Hyderabad state. Today, it has come to be recognized as one of the biggest display windows in the country for trade, commerce and industry, with participants from all over the country, and from Iran, Turkey, Afganistan and Bangladesh.
Entry charges are just Rs. 10 per head, and these support the activities of the Exhibition Society, including the management of 18 educational institutions that serve over 35,000 students of Hyderabad and the surrounding districts. Please contact the Exhibition Society at 2460-3015/2460-3553 for further details.
