Kalasagaram's 43rd Annual Festival of Music, Dance & Drama is on at the Keyes High School, from 27th November to 5th December. As part of the festival, Kathadi Ramamurthy's Stage Creations will present a Tamil drama, "Neenga Yaar Pakkam?", on 4th December, the penultimate day. The drama is directed by S L Naanu.
The story deals with a major problem faced by the parents of several middle class families when their educated children are lured to accept jobs at far-off foreign countries with fabulous salaries and fancy career prospects. Many parents reluctantly compromise to go abroad themselves and settle down with their children. But they are welcome in these countries only for short durations of upto one year, and that too usually only once in three years.
They undergo the hassles of foreign travel and jet lag, and have to perform the duties of unpaid nurses and unpaid caretakers, at their advanced ages, to their grandchildren in new surroundings, and eventually return to India. They deceive themselves by telling their friends in India that they had a wonderful life abroad for one year.
Kalasagaram is a South-Indian cultural association situated in East Nehru Nagar of East Marredpally, and has been organising Carnatic music concerts for more than 40 years now. The concerts are usually held in the Keyes High School campus in the open-air theatre. The singers are generally from outside Hyderabad, usually amateurs and upcoming artistes, and quite competent. Kalasagaram also occasionally stages South-Indian classical dances and Tamil plays.
The entry to this cultural festival is by daily donor passes of Rs. 100, Rs. 50 & Rs. 25 per head. Season passes are also available for Rs. 400, Rs. 300 & Rs. 200 per head. Please contact V Rajagopal, General Secretary of Kalasagaram, at 2773-1775 for further details.
